FILTERED CONNECTORS WITH ELECTRO-MAGNETIC INTERFERENCE SUPPRESSION FILTERS

The Weald Electronics LMHF range offers superior specification, enhanced reliability and extended life.  Based on the Weald LMH (MIL-C-26482) range, connectors can be offered in the fixed square flange or single hole mounting shell styles.

Weald filtered connectors incorporate multilayer ceramic planar capacitor arrays to form the capacitive filtering elements.  These enable a variety of filter configurations and values to be realised within a single filtered connector.  For example, 'C', 'LC', and 'Pi' section filtering can be all accommodated within a single shell, including capacitance values varying by more than a factor of 10, ground lines and unfiltered lines.

Connection to the planar array, both for contact to the pins and to the shell, is made through compliant mechanisms.  Precision machined and photoetched components provide excellent mechanical and thermal stress relief arising from everyday use.

Compliant contacts between the connector pins and the ceramic relieve the stresses incurred as pins align to sockets during mating/demating cycles.  They also provide excellent thermal stress relief from temperature shocks associated with soldering the contact tails.  A compliant ground band further protects from stresses resulting from thermal cycling.  This approach leads to excellent performance throughout the operational life of the connector.

Less robust design may suffer from a gradual continuous degradation in performance due to stress microcracking, which may go unnoticed early in the system's life.
