RoHS News Flash - Compliant Drab Olive

The European ‘RoHS’ legislation (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) became law on 1st July 2006 and restricts the use of Lead, Mercury, Cadmium, Hexavalent Chromium and the flame retardants PBB and PBDE in new electrical and electronic equipment.  

With regard specifically to electrical connectors and their surface coatings, Cadmium plating is exempt, and our main alternative Zinc Cobalt is compliant with the RoHS directive. Following comprehensive trials. Weald Electronics can now announce that both finishes can now be supplied with a RoHS compliant drab olive finish with a Hexavalent Chromium content in the passivation layer below the levels permitted by the directive.

Trials on surface finishes within Weald Electronics have shown that our standard range of drab olive Cadmium and Zinc Cobalt plated connectors are RoHS compliant and meet the corrosion resistance requirements of all our CECC product approvals.

Weald Electronics can also offer many alternative surface finishes for connectors. These finishes have varying properties with strengths and weaknesses in different areas. One of these leading existing finishes is bright Electroless Nickel which has good all round general properties.
